Kevin Wheeler

Deputy Chief Medical Informatics Officer

Kevin joined Western Health in 2022 with a Digital Health background in Clinical Systems and Electronic Medical Records from his previous roles within the Tasmanian health system and at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH), Melbourne. Throughout 2022-2023, he contributed to Digital Health projects in a clinical informatics role, contributing to workflow projects for newborn infants’ care and improvements to prescribing safety for newborn infants. In January 2024, Kevin moved into the Deputy Chief Medical Officer (Acting) role.

Kevin’s broad clinical background includes General Practice, General Paediatrics, Neonatal Intensive Care and Retrieval (PIPER). He thrives on working with diverse teams to optimise clinical care and outcomes. This was evidenced when he led the implementation of the state-wide neonatal resuscitation program in Tasmania, and the implementation of interdisciplinary simulation within the RCH neonatology education programs. With a passion for research and innovation, Kevin’s work has contributed to innovations in neonatal respiratory care, and he has joined our Digital Health projects which support the use clinical data for quality and research.

Outside work, Kevin enjoys creating music and being active in the outdoors!
