The prescribing of Targin has been updated to promote safer and more consistent prescribing practices.

Targin will be available to order via an Orderset and prescribing will now be based on the exact dose (in mg) of the primary active ingredient Oxycodone.

The intended total dose of Targin will be clear and allows flexibility over which product strength can be given, ie. 10mg OR 5mg x two tablets – depending on stock availability on the ward.

The Targin order shown on the MAR will note that: TARGIN contains Oxycodone and Naloxone in 2:1 ratio

Key changes:

• Targin must be ordered via an Orderset () for inpatient prescribing
• Targin will now be ordered by strength unit rather than number of tablets
• Dose will be ordered based on Oxycodone component only
