Peripheral Cannula documentation in the EMR
A reminder to complete documentation in the EMR when a Peripheral Cannula is inserted out of hospital or under an emergency situation for example resus or MET call.
As per the Western Health procedure ‘Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation’:
8.4.1 All PIVCs inserted by ambulance personnel in the community, and any PIVC inserted in an emergency situation e.g. during resuscitation, must be re – sited upon admission to the ward.
These PIVCs, if not removed in the Emergency Department, must have an identifying pink sticker placed over them with the words “Ambulance Cannula, Remove on Admission to Ward”, to identify that the PIVC must be removed promptly.
