EMR on the Go: Revolutionising patient care

As part of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Phase 2 project, the Digital Health team is supporting clinicians’ access to have the power of ‘EMR on the Go’ right at their fingertips.

One of the opportunities EMR on the Go provides is for clinicians to use their personal handheld devices or smartphones to access the PowerChart Touch app. This app allows them to review and update patient information seamlessly, even while on the move. Additionally, the Camera Capture app lets clinicians safely upload clinical photography directly into the patient’s medical record at the point of care.

Charlotte Cooke, a Podiatrist, participated in the EMR on the Go pilot in 2023 and experienced firsthand the benefits of these apps to support multi-disciplinary care.

“Having immediate access to the EMR and the ability to securely upload photos led to improved communications between clinicians and better co-ordination of patient care in both the inpatient and outpatient settings,” Charlotte said.

“Camera capture assisted both Allied Health and medical specialists providing care to complex presentations, which supported care coordination, and in some cases reduced the need for hospital admissions,” she added.

Similarly, Georgia Bradford, a resident Medical Officer found the Camera Capture app invaluable during her dermatology rotation.

“The Camera Capture app makes communication between clinicians easier and safer and is a quicker way to upload clinical images to the EMR,” Georgia said.

Tanya Bridgeman, a Wound Care Consultant uses the Camera Capture app and believes it’s made a vital contribution to patient safety and care.

“Being able to view photos securely within the EMR means that I’m able to accurately monitor if care strategies are working, which ultimately leads to better patient care,” Tanya said.

A limited number of EMR on the Go licenses are now available to medical officers, allied health professionals, and nurses and midwifes. You can visit the Digital Health site to view the device requirements and complete the expression of interest form
