2024 EMR Code Upgrade and Post Upgrade Changes

There will be a comprehensive Electronic Medical Record (EMR) code upgrade scheduled from 8:00 PM Wednesday, 6th November until 5:00 AM Thursday, 7th November 2024. This code upgrade will ensure Western Health’s EMR system remains up to date, secure and reliable.

While there will be no EMR downtime, between 11:15PM and 12.30AM integration between the EMR and downstream systems will be interrupted.  Please refer to the table below to understand the actions you need to take.

  • Potential slowness or error messages that can be clicked through.
  • Users will be required to log off and log back on immediately up to two times during the evening.
  • Ten, five and one minute warnings will flash up to remind users to save work before logging off and on again.

11.15 PM Wednesday, 6th November 2024 to 12.30 AM Thursday, 7th November 2024

Integration with the EMR and downstream systems will be interrupted
  • Once integration is restored, queued messages will be processed.
  • Admission, Discharge, Transfer messages will not be received by EMR from iPM
  • Updates to patient location and demographics in iPM will not be reflected in the EMR.
  • Pathology and Radiology orders will not be received by the respective departments, or the EMR.
  • Orders will still need to be placed in the EMR, then printed as per the Pathology Integration Downtime and Radiology Integration Downtime Quick Reference Guides
  • New Pathology and Radiology results will be able to be viewed in BOSSnet.

The Digital Health Operations team members will be onsite throughout the entire upgrade period to actively monitor the system and provide support in case there are any performance issues.  If staff notice any issues with the EMR in the leadup to the code upgrade, or afterwards, please raise them through the usual IT Service Desk process.

What’s changing?
