The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care requires that antimicrobial indications are clearly documented in the medication order. At present the indication field is only mandatory for “restricted” and “highly restricted” antimicrobials.

As part of ongoing efforts to ensure judicious use of antimicrobials, the mandatory indication field will be updated to include ALL antimicrobials. This change will take effect in the EMR as of midday Tuesday 11th February 2020.
