Admission screening is crucial in preventing transmission of pathogens such as the Novel Coronavirus and multi-resistant organisms such as CPE within Western Health. Recent audits have shown that since the implementation of the EMR, Infectious Disease screening has declined and actions linked to screening such as Transmission Based Precautions can be delayed.

To help reduce confusion, the Infection Prevention team has recently updated the Infectious Disease Screening tool in the EMR. This includes guided actions linked to positive responses on screening such as which precautions and alerts are required.

The Infectious Disease Screening tool should be completed on arrival for all Western Health patients as part of the Basic Admission Assessment in the EMR:

When all fields are completed, Sign and submit the form.

Check that the appropriate alerts are updated in the EMR and ensure the instructions related to precautions required are included in clinical handover.
